Aizawl, April 28 (NationPress) In a devastating incident, three family members tragically lost their lives, including two women, and another person was injured when a massive rock fell onto their moving vehicle in Mizoram on Monday, according to police reports.
A police spokesperson revealed that the accident took place in the Pukpui area along the Aizawl-Lengpui airport road when a large rock tumbled from a hillside, crushing the victims' car and resulting in the immediate deaths of three individuals, including two women.
The catastrophic rock fall was precipitated by heavy rainfall that persisted for several hours.
According to officials, the family was traveling in a Hyundai car at the time of the incident.
The deceased have been identified as Lalrinliana, his wife Lungtiawii, and their daughter Vanlalhruaii.
Authorities reported that Lalrinliana's son, Lallawmzuala, who was behind the wheel, managed to survive but sustained serious injuries, necessitating his transfer to a hospital.
The vehicle was completely destroyed, and rescue teams spent several hours recovering the bodies from the wreckage.
The section of road where the tragedy occurred is part of the National Highway, notorious for being highly susceptible to rock falls and frequent accidents.

Due to the region's susceptibility to landslides, mountainous Mizoram frequently experiences various natural disasters during the monsoon season, resulting in numerous fatalities each year.
According to Mizoram Police, there were 124 road accidents reported in the state in 2024, leading to 112 fatalities. Since 2019, a total of 547 road accidents have been recorded, claiming 467 lives, which is approximately 83 percent. It is possible that some incidents went unreported for various reasons.
