Moscow, March 12 (NationPress) Moscow is set to await additional information from Washington regarding a recent ceasefire suggestion discussed during conversations between the United States and Ukraine, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday.
Peskov indicated that Moscow prefers not to make any premature statements before receiving more details.
“Yesterday, during a press briefing, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz mentioned that they would relay detailed information regarding discussions that occurred in Jeddah through various diplomatic channels,” the spokesperson stated.
He pointed out that meetings with US officials are slated for the upcoming days, where all essential details will be shared.
On Tuesday, Ukraine expressed its willingness to accept a US proposal for an “immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire” following discussions with a US delegation in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as indicated in a joint statement.
The critical meeting held on Tuesday between senior officials from the US and Ukraine resulted in Kyiv approving a US-proposed 30-day ceasefire plan, along with Washington agreeing to resume its military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Initially expected to be brief, the meeting extended for approximately eight hours into the evening before both parties issued a joint statement agreeing to “conclude as soon as possible a comprehensive agreement for developing Ukraine's critical mineral resources.”
Despite low expectations for substantial outcomes from the discussions, the final joint statement signaled a significant diplomatic shift for both sides nearly two weeks after a rare disagreement between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House.
The Ukrainian delegation included Zelensky's Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, and Defence Minister Rustem Umerov. Additionally, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and National Security Advisor Musaed bin Muhammad Al-Aiban were also part of the discussions.
Yermak tweeted at the meeting's outset that it “began very constructively.” He later posted a brief update during the talks, stating, “Work in progress.” Similarly, Sybiha described the meeting as “constructive,” emphasizing that Ukraine seeks peace “like no one else.”
