Los Angeles, March 14 (NationPress) The James Bond franchise became even more remarkable thanks to the German-Irish actor Michael Fassbender.
The actor recently disclosed that it was his endorsement that played a role in the selection of Daniel Craig for the iconic role, as reported by Variety.
During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Fassbender shared that he had recommended Daniel during his own audition for Casino Royale.
“I had a brief interaction with Barbara Broccoli and I actually went through an audition process before Daniel Craig was chosen, but I don’t believe I was ever seriously considered,” Fassbender stated. “I remember being in that room with her and (Michael G.) Wilson and I was saying, ‘Daniel Craig is…’ I’m not sure why I was advocating for him. I should have been selling myself.”
“That’s what I was trying to convey. I wasn’t good at auditions,” the actor continued, also confessing that he failed his audition for Mad Max: Fury Road simply by arriving at the Warner Bros. lot an hour late. “Clearly, Daniel performed excellently and went on to become, in my opinion, the most successful Bond ever. But that was really it; there were no further discussions afterward.”
According to Variety, Fassbender was among several young talents auditioning for Bond when the series was being revitalized after Pierce Brosnan’s last performance in Die Another Day. A major contender during the audition process was Henry Cavill, although he was deemed too young for the producers’ preferences.
‘Casino Royale’ director Martin Campbell commented to Express UK last year that Cavill’s audition was outstanding.
“He appeared fantastic during the audition. His performance was exceptional,” Martin remarked. “If Daniel hadn’t been an option, Henry would have been a brilliant Bond. He was in excellent shape and very attractive; he just seemed a bit youthful at that time.”
The quest for a new James Bond actor continues now that Daniel Craig has stepped away from the role after five films.
