Hyderabad, April 28 (NationPress) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy convened a meeting on Monday to deliberate on the ongoing anti-Maoist operation carried out by security forces near the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border with senior leaders and government advisors.
In light of the recent meeting between the Peace Dialogue Committee and the Chief Minister, where they urged for a proactive approach towards peace talks involving the Union government and the Maoists, Revanth Reddy consulted with former Home Minister K. Jana Reddy at his residence.
Among those present were senior leader and government advisor K. Keshava Rao and advisor Vem Narender Reddy.
The discussions revolved around the ongoing Operation Kagar in Chhattisgarh and the proposals presented by the Peace Committee.
Headed by retired high court judge Justice Chandra Kumar, the Peace Dialogue Committee includes civil society members such as Jampanna alias G. Narasimha Reddy, Professor Hara Hopal, and Professor P. L. Vihsveshvar Rao. They met with the Chief Minister on Sunday to advocate for initiating peace talks between the Maoists and the Centre.
The committee urged the Chief Minister to convince the Centre to agree to a ceasefire.
The Chief Minister emphasized to the Peace Committee leaders that his government approaches Maoism from a social viewpoint, rather than merely a law and order issue.
Revanth Reddy expressed intent to consult Jana Reddy, who has experience in negotiations with Maoists, stating, "We will seek valuable insights and suggestions from senior leader Jana Reddy on this matter."
He also indicated that the state Cabinet would deliberate on the issue and reach a decision promptly.
The civil society members conveyed to the Chief Minister that their primary aim is to foster peaceful discussions between both parties, promote a cessation of hostilities, and discover enduring solutions to resolve violence.
The panel, comprising legal experts, professors, doctors, human rights advocates, journalists, and public leaders from diverse sectors, reiterated their goal to preserve lives, whether they belong to innocent tribals, police personnel, or members of armed groups.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) President and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao also called on the BJP-led government at the Centre to halt its Operation Kagar against the Maoists and engage them in peace talks.
Criticizing the large-scale operation by security forces against the Communist Party of India-Maoist in Chhattisgarh, he stated that the massacre is unjustifiable.
His remarks were made during a public gathering at Elkathurthy in Hanamkonda district, commemorating the silver jubilee of the BRS.
