Agartala, Jan 28 (NationPress) The 16th Finance Commission, led by Chairman Arvind Panagariya, is set to conduct a series of meetings concurrently with the Tripura government and a variety of stakeholders including political parties, rural and urban local bodies, as well as representatives from trade, industries, and commerce during its four-day visit to the state starting Wednesday, as stated by an official.

The 12-member team of the Finance Commission, under the guidance of its Chairman, will arrive on Wednesday and tour various regions of Tripura while engaging in over a dozen meetings with different stakeholders.

A senior official from the Tripura government mentioned that the Commission plans to conduct a crucial meeting with Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha, along with his Cabinet members, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, and Secretaries from various departments on Thursday (January 30).

On the same day, the Commission will also meet with Panchayat Raj institutions, urban local bodies, representatives from the Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), leaders from various political parties, and members of trade, commerce, and industry associations.

The Chairman of the Finance Commission, along with four of its members and additional officials, will also explore various tourist attractions in the districts of Gomati, Sepahijala, and West Tripura.

The 16th Finance Commission was established on December 31, 2023, with Panagariya, who is a former Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog, as its Chairman.

The four full-time members consist of Ajay Narayan Jha, a former member of the 15th Finance Commission and former Secretary of Expenditure, Annie George Mathew, former Special Secretary of Expenditure, Manoj Panda, former director at the Institute of Economic Growth, and Soumya Kanti Ghosh, Group Chief Economic Advisor at the State Bank of India.

The 16th Finance Commission has already visited several northeastern states, holding meetings with state governments, various stakeholders, and political party leaders.

Officials have indicated that the recommendations from the 16th Finance Commission will be released by October 31, 2025, covering a five-year award period beginning April 1, 2026.
