New Delhi, March 13 (NationPress) Approximately 78% of employers in India intend to recruit more women for blue-collar positions in 2025, a notable increase from 73% last year, according to a recent report released on Thursday.

The study conducted by job platform Indeed reveals that women currently hold 20% of blue-collar jobs across the nation.

In terms of female representation, the retail and healthcare sectors lead with 32%, while industries such as banking, financial services, insurance (BFSI), information technology (IT), and telecommunications feature less than 10% women in their workforce.

The report indicates that certain sectors are advancing more effectively as employers express a strong commitment to enhancing women’s participation in the country’s blue-collar labor market.

A significant factor driving more women towards blue-collar employment is the pursuit of financial independence, with 70% of respondents citing this as their main motivation.

“While companies are striving to employ more women, real progress hinges on improved retention strategies, career advancement opportunities, and policies that guarantee financial stability, flexibility, and healthcare,” stated Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales at Indeed India.

He also emphasized the need for employers to invest in training, mentorship, and leadership development specifically for women in blue-collar roles.

“Elevating women’s participation today transcends mere diversity; it is an economic imperative,” Kumar remarked.

Additionally, earlier this week, the government reported that over 30.68 crore unorganized workers have registered on the government’s e-Shram portal to access social welfare benefits.

Among these workers, more than half—53.68%—are women, according to Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje.

The data (as of March 3) underscores the increasing involvement of women in utilizing social security schemes.

The e-Shram portal was launched by the government on August 26, 2021, aiming to establish a national database of unorganized workers and provide them with a Universal Account Number (UAN).

This initiative seeks to assist workers in sectors such as construction, domestic work, and street vending in accessing various welfare benefits.
