Chandigarh, March 14 (NationPress) In a significant operation by the Punjab Police, Harpreet Singh, one of the suspects detained for the abduction of a seven-year-old boy, suffered bullet wounds while trying to evade police custody during a follow-up mission aimed at recovering illegal firearms, stated Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gagan Ajit Singh on Friday.

This incident occurred just a day after police successfully rescued the boy within 24 hours of his kidnapping and apprehended two suspects—Harpreet Singh (24) from Bathan village in Amargarh and Ravi Bhinder (21) from Jagowal village, also in Amargarh.

Their accomplice, identified as Jaspreet Singh, was neutralized during a retaliatory operation after he attempted to escape in a Fortuner SUV and opened fire on the police at Mandour village along Nabha Road. In acknowledgment of their prompt actions, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh and promotions for the police personnel involved in the operation.

Notably, the operation was executed collaboratively by police teams from three districts—Khanna, Malerkotla, and Patiala—under the comprehensive oversight of DIG Patiala Range Mandeep Singh Sidhu.

Senior Superintendent of Police Gagan Ajit mentioned that to establish the backward and forward linkages, specialized teams were formed under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Vaibhav Sehgal, led by CIA in-charge Harjinder Singh and SHO Manjot Singh.

During the follow-up investigations, SHO Amargarh received intelligence that the accused Harpreet Singh and Ravi Bhinder were believed to be armed with illegal weapons, he noted, adding that police teams took Harpreet Singh to recover these firearms near Salar village.

Upon arriving at the scene, Harpreet attempted to flee by firing at the police party using the pistol he had obtained from the location, stated the Senior Superintendent of Police.

The police responded in self-defense, resulting in injuries to Harpreet in his leg, he confirmed.

The suspect was subsequently transported to the Civil Hospital Malerkotla for medical attention.

Senior Superintendent of Police Gagan Ajit reported that police teams recovered a .32 caliber pistol along with two cartridges from the scene. Additional investigations are ongoing, he added.
