The revelation came from JSP chairman Naveen Jindal during the Utkarsh Odisha Conclave - 2025, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Our ambition is to elevate Odisha into a global industrial powerhouse while consistently enhancing the living standards for its residents. This new investment of Rs 70,000 crore will not only stimulate industrial progress but also improve the livelihood of thousands of families in Odisha, contributing to India’s path towards self-sufficiency,” Jindal stated.
“We are also looking into the potential of establishing a steel plant in Keonjhar district to realize the vision of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi,” Jindal further mentioned.
The Utkarsh Odisha event highlighted Odisha’s strategic role in India’s economic advancement, with leaders stressing the importance of cooperation between the public and private sectors to achieve sustainable growth.
JSP is already managing India’s first coal gasification plant dedicated to steel manufacturing in Angul, which aims to lessen reliance on imported coking coal. The Angul Steel Plant, which currently has a capacity of 6 MTPA, will increase to 12 MTPA this year and is projected to reach 25.2 MTPA by 2030, positioning it as the largest and most environmentally friendly steel plant globally, leading in hydrogen-based green steel production, as per a company statement.
In addition to its industrial initiatives, JSP has significantly contributed to Odisha’s community development. Over the last decade, the company has invested Rs 900 crore in sustainable social projects focusing on healthcare, education, skill enhancement, women empowerment, rural livelihoods, sports, and cultural initiatives. These programs have positively impacted numerous lives throughout the state, the statement emphasized.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi was present, along with senior officials, to celebrate Odisha’s crucial role in India’s industrial expansion and its rise as a global development center, the statement concluded.
