Chennai, Jan 20 (IANS) Renowned Malayalam film producer Antony Perumbavoor, whose production company Aashirvad Cinemas is poised to celebrate its 25th anniversary in just a few days, has nostalgically reflected on the making of the Mohanlal film ‘Alibhai’, declaring that it will always hold a special place in his heart.

In a post on his X timeline, Antony Perumbavoor expressed, “Alibhai, our eighth production, is a film that remains dear to me. Directed by Shaji Kailas and penned by the late T.A. Shahid, the narrative unfolds against the lively and bustling backdrop of Kozhikode’s famous Palayam Market, beautifully capturing the essence of the city and its inhabitants with profound emotion.”

He reminisced that filming commenced on Mohanlal’s birthday in 2007, stating, “The journey of ‘Alibhai’ began on a memorable note. On May 21, 2007, the pooja ceremony took place at Vismayas Max Studio, coinciding with Lal sir’s birthday. The turnout of Lal sir’s admirers, who gathered to celebrate both the film and the beloved actor, made the day unforgettable.”

Perumbavoor elaborated on why he holds ‘Alibhai’ in such high regard, saying, “Looking back, ‘Alibhai’ transcends mere filmmaking - it serves as a poignant reminder of the incredible talents we've lost. KPAC Lalitha chechi, Innocent chettan, Rajan P Dev chettan, and Cochin Haneefa ikka brought their unmatched artistry to this film, each leaving a lasting impact on Malayalam cinema. Their contributions were not limited to this project but shaped an entire generation of storytelling, and their absence is profoundly felt. We also cherish the memory of Santhosh Jogi, whose talent was vital to this journey. The heartfelt writing of T.A. Shahid, which infused the film with its spirit, remains a treasured memory.”

“Their collective efforts, alongside the remarkable cast including Gopika, Navya Nair, Shamna Kasim, Siddhique chettan, Jagadish chettan, Ganesh chettan, Sai Kumar chettan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Baburaj, and the rest of the crew, made ‘Alibhai’ a true celebration of talent and creativity.”

The producer concluded by expressing gratitude to everyone involved in the project.

“With just a week remaining to celebrate 25 years of Aashirvad Cinemas, I extend my heartfelt thanks to Lal sir, Shajiettan, T.A. Shahid, and every individual who contributed to making this film special. Thank you for your love and unwavering support.”
