Chennai, April 24 (NationPress) Director David F Sandberg and writer-producer Gary Dauberman have revealed that when selecting the cast for their upcoming film, 'Until Dawn', a complex survival horror infused with blood and time loops, they were determined to find actors who could endure the psychological and physical turmoil that the script required.
“We sought performers ready to give their all,” Sandberg explains. “We anticipated a grueling shoot involving numerous practical effects, meaning actors would have to crawl through dirt, be drenched in blood, and scream for extended periods.”
The outcome? A cast that embraced every challenge. Ella Rubin, portraying the main character Clover, faced bear traps, blood splatters, and being dragged across the ground.
“Ella, like the entire cast, consistently had to go all out,” adds producer Lotta Losten. “When your character is dying repeatedly, it’s bound to be intense. Ella possesses a raw and enchanting ability to convey Clover’s terrors.”
Rubin described the physically taxing role as “thrilling and somewhat delightful.” She stated, “You can’t hold back when your character is in constant peril, literally fleeing from a monster wielding an axe!”
Sandberg’s expectations for dedication didn’t end there. Michael Cimino wielded knives with such fervor that they had to ask him to tone it down. Meanwhile, Ji-young Yoo delivered what Losten called “the most harrowing self-tape I’ve ever witnessed,” fully embodying a psychic who hosts numerous trapped souls. “It was incredible to see Ji-young transition between various personalities and emotions. Her screams are profoundly authentic and filled with dread,” remarks Sandberg.
This steadfast dedication to realism—whether through blood-soaked stunts or intense emotional portrayals—was central to the filmmakers’ vision. For 'Until Dawn', horror needed to feel genuine, brutal, and relentless. They discovered actors who could fully engage with that vision.
The film is set to premiere in India in both Hindi and English on April 25.
