Imphal, Feb 3 (NationPress) Manipur, a region celebrated for its vibrant cultural and cinematic heritage, is gearing up for the 2nd installment of the 'Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival (EIIFF)-2025' from February 6. This event aims to advance the art of cinema and establish the state as a key center for independent filmmaking.

Festival Director Sunzu Bachaspatimayum announced on Monday that the four-day EIIFF-2025 in Imphal will showcase 54 films, including 38 international entries from countries like Germany, Australia, Iran, Norway, Syria, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Bhutan.

Bachaspatimayum, who also serves as the Secretary of the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), introduced the creator of the festival memento, acclaimed artist Robin Wahengbam, who previously designed the mascot for the 1999 National Games held in Manipur.

The memento, which features the Manipuri Pony, embodies the enduring spirit of cinema and the artistic resilience of Manipur.

Wahengbam revealed that his design was motivated by the unyielding energy of both the film industry and the Manipuri Pony, emphasizing the importance of conserving this endangered indigenous breed.

This edition aspires to elevate the EIIFF into a premier international film festival in the region, presenting an outstanding selection of critically acclaimed films from global festivals along with a dedicated showcase of cinema from northeast India.

Bachaspatimayum noted that film packages encompass International Competition, World Lenses, Northeast Currents, Eikhoigi Classics, Eikhoigi Montage, Remastered Manipuri Cinema: The Light of Manipuri, and Manipuri Matinee.

In addition to screenings, EIIFF 2025 will host industry-centered events such as Masterclasses, Cine Talks, Panel Discussions, and Pitch Sessions in both Documentary and Fiction categories, nurturing emerging talents and facilitating industry networking.

Regarding the festival delegate registration, the Festival Director disclosed that film screenings are accessible only to individuals accredited with the festival, with a fee of Rs 150. Children are permitted at industry venues, food courts, and cultural events; however, entry to film screenings is restricted, and reservations for seats must be made in advance, Bachaspatimayum stated.

The EIIFF-2025 receives support from the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the National Film Development Corporation, the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation, and the Information and Cultural Affairs Departments of Tripura and Manipur.
