Mumbai, Feb 4 (NationPress) Actress Zarina Wahab, who is looking forward to the release of her upcoming streaming project, ‘Armaan’, revealed that actress Shabana Azmi would humorously tease her about her Hindi skills.
During a recent conversation with IANS while promoting her OTT title, she shared this amusing anecdote.
She explained, “Being from Andhra and having studied in Telugu, my Hindi was quite poor. The difference between the Hindi and Hyderabadi accents is significant.”
Zarina added, “My peers, including Shabana, Kamaljeet Singh, and Shelender Singh, who were part of our group, would playfully mock my Hindi. However, through consistent practice and our diction classes, my Hindi improved over time.”
She also discussed her film, stating, “‘Armaan’ was produced by Monali and directed by Manchan Vakil. We filmed the entire movie in Kashmir, and it was an enjoyable experience. It’s a romantic drama with a unique twist.”
Previously, the actress recounted a challenging moment during her Malayalam film debut, ‘Madanolsavam’.
A recently resurfaced video features her discussing the difficulties she faced with the Malayalam language, a tongue she still struggles with despite her involvement in 29 Malayalam films.
She shared, “Even now, I don’t know Malayalam, although I’ve acted in 29 films. My first film was with Kamal Haasan. When we entered the room, they handed me the money, which I was eager to get as I wanted to buy a nice flat. They gave me the cash, and I was thrilled. However, when it came to the dialogues, I was completely lost. I didn’t comprehend a single word, and I broke down, feeling trapped. I thought, ‘I’ll return the money somehow’, but I wanted to leave.”
“I refused to exit the room, prompting Kamal to check on me. I said, ‘I’m so sorry, I can’t do this, I need to go back’. He responded, ‘Now that you’re here, give it a try for a day. We’ll assist you. You can jot your lines down on the cutter. Just match your lip movements and expressions. We’ll handle the dubbing.’ I managed to get through my first shot with their help, and to my surprise, I thought, ‘Not bad’. When it came to a romantic scene, I held Kamal and wrote my lines on his hand, thinking, ‘I could even do a Russian film if someone dubs for me’,” she concluded.
