Tokyo, Nov 27 (NationPress) Japan is currently facing a notable increase in mycoplasma pneumonia cases, with an average of 2.84 patients per healthcare facility reported nationwide for the week ending November 17, according to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases.
This represents a significant increase from prior weeks and is the highest number since the introduction of the current tracking system.
Mycoplasma pneumonia, a type of bacterial infection commonly found in children, spreads through droplets or physical contact and manifests symptoms like persistent cough, fever, fatigue, and headaches. While many cases resolve without severe complications, some can escalate to serious pneumonia that necessitates hospitalization.
Fukui Prefecture reported the highest regional average at 8.83 cases per healthcare facility, followed by Aomori (5.0), Kyoto (4.71), and Hokkaido (4.59). Major urban areas such as Tokyo and Osaka also documented increased rates of 4.32 and 3.17, respectively, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
Public health officials are encouraging the community to implement preventive strategies, including wearing masks, practicing proper hand hygiene, and seeking medical advice if symptoms persist.
