Hyderabad, Nov 27 (NationPress) A 25-year-old woman from Odisha, who was serving as a surrogate for a couple unable to conceive, tragically lost her life after an incident involving a fall from the ninth floor of an apartment complex in Hyderabad, raising serious suspicions.
The unfortunate event took place at My Home Bhooja Apartments, situated within the jurisdiction of Raidurgam Police Station under the Cyberabad Commissionerate late on Tuesday night, according to police reports released on Wednesday.
The deceased, identified as Ashvita Singh, was reportedly confined to an apartment by the couple. Her husband was also given a flat in the same building, yet he was prevented from visiting her.
Authorities are currently investigating whether this incident was a case of suicide or an accidental fall while attempting to escape. Evidence found at the scene, including two sarees and a dupatta tied to the balcony railing, suggests that she may have been trying to climb down to the eighth floor. It is suspected that she slipped and fell, leading to her tragic demise.
Rajesh Babu, aged 54, and his wife allegedly arranged for Ashvita's surrogacy through a mediator named Sandeep, with the contract being finalized for Rs 10 lakh.
Initial police investigations revealed that Ashvita was not yet pregnant, and the surrogacy procedure was scheduled to commence next month.
The husband of the deceased has accused Rajesh Babu of inappropriate behavior and even attempted abuse, which left Ashvita feeling distressed and likely prompted her attempt to escape, leading to the fatal fall.
As a result, police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against Rajesh Babu and have initiated an investigation. They are looking into the duration of time that Ashvita and her husband spent in the apartment and whether they were forcibly confined.
Raidurgam Station House Officer Venkanna stated that the investigation is being conducted from all angles, including the accusations made by the deceased's husband.
