Beirut, Jan 29 (NationPress) Ousmane Dione, Vice President of the World Bank for the Middle East and North Africa, revealed that the bank is in the final stages of a rapid damage assessment aimed at facilitating Lebanon's reconstruction initiatives.

After a discussion with President Michel Aoun, Dione stated that the World Bank anticipates concluding the assessment by the end of February, with emergency aid soon to be presented for the board’s approval.

“We are dedicated to supporting Lebanon during this pivotal transition to foster recovery and ensure the well-being of all its citizens,” Dione remarked.

During his conversation with President Aoun, Dione emphasized the World Bank's commitment to Lebanon and its readiness to host an international conference aimed at helping the nation tackle its economic hurdles.

He underscored the necessity of structural reforms to restore global confidence in Lebanon and attract private sector investments.

In response, President Aoun reiterated Lebanon's commitment to enacting essential reforms, as highlighted in his inauguration address, emphasizing that one of the new government's primary goals would be to draft legislation to propel reforms across various sectors.

He also outlined critical goals for the upcoming phase, including reconstruction—especially in regions ravaged by Israeli assaults—enhancing public administration, improving citizen services, and modernizing government functions through digital technology.

Aoun expressed gratitude to the World Bank for its unwavering support and promised to fast-track the approval of long-term loans in Parliament. He also welcomed the continuous presence of the World Bank's office in Lebanon, despite the nation's ongoing challenges, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

The World Bank has sanctioned 736 million US dollars in long-term loans for Lebanon, focusing on agriculture, energy, and water. The loans are pending parliamentary approval prior to commencement.
