South Korea: Presidential Security Officials Reject Police Inquiry Request
Washington, Jan 4 (NationPress) The two leading officials of South Korea's Presidential Security Service (PSS) dismissed a police inquiry request on Saturday, a day after obstructing the state anti-corruption agency's effort to detain impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol.

Washington, Jan 4 (NationPress) The two top officials of South Korea's Presidential Security Service (PSS) turned down a police request to attend questioning on Saturday, just a day after successfully preventing the state anti-corruption agency's attempt to arrest impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol.

In a statement to the press, the PSS indicated that neither Chief Park Chong-jun nor Deputy Kim Seong-hoon could temporarily leave their roles, referencing the serious nature of their responsibility in securing Yoon.

The PSS mentioned that they are in discussions with the police to find a new date for the questioning session, as reported by the Yonhap news agency.

On Friday, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) attempted to carry out its warrant for Yoon’s arrest due to his unsuccessful martial law proposal in December. However, the CIO ceased its efforts following a six-hour standoff with PSS personnel and military forces, noting that around 200 individuals had formed a human barrier obstructing access to the presidential residence.

The PSS subsequently warned of potential legal actions against what they termed “unauthorized trespassing.”

The six opposition parties, spearheaded by the Democratic Party, have called for accountability for Park regarding his involvement in Friday's incident.

During a joint press conference at the National Assembly, leaders from these six parties asserted that Park should be promptly dismissed from his position and face arrest on accusations of obstructing official duties, concealing an offender, and abusing power.

The parties further alleged that Park and the entire PSS are complicit in insurrection. They contended that acting President Choi Sang-mok shares responsibility for the standoff and must ensure PSS cooperation with the CIO.

The opposition urged the CIO to swiftly execute the arrest warrant, emphasizing that there must not be another withdrawal.
