Aden, March 13 (NationPress) The UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, highlighted the critical need for synchronized regional and international initiatives to alleviate tensions and foster an inclusive political dialogue in Yemen.

These comments were made during Grundberg's visit to Riyadh, where he held discussions with Saudi Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al-Jaber, the UAE Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al-Zaabi, ambassadors from permanent members of the Security Council, and other high-ranking officials, according to a statement from the UN envoy's office shared on the social media platform X.

“Conversations revolved around Yemen and regional dynamics, including significant political shifts,” the statement elaborated.

“He underscored the necessity of unity and collective efforts for attaining a sustainable and peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict,” it continued.

Yemen has been entrenched in a brutal military struggle between the Houthi group and the internationally acknowledged government for over a decade, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Despite numerous diplomatic attempts, both international and regional efforts have been unsuccessful in concluding the prolonged conflict, which the United Nations describes as “the worst humanitarian crisis globally.”

The situation in Yemen has become increasingly complicated due to the Houthis' maritime and cross-border actions. Recently, the Houthi group declared the revival of their prohibition on Israeli vessels in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait, and Gulf of Aden.

This announcement followed the end of a four-day ultimatum issued by the group’s leader on March 7, resulting from Israel’s blockade of humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip.

Since November 2023, the Houthi group has conducted extensive maritime operations against ships they allege are Israeli or linked to Israel in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait, and Gulf of Aden. These actions were momentarily suspended following a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas that was enacted in January.
