Gurugram, Feb 4 (NationPress) On this year's Cancer Day, February 4, medical professionals at a Gurugram hospital commended the Ayushman Bharat initiative for its revolutionary effects on cancer treatment, especially for those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. This program, which provides complimentary cancer treatment, is recognized as a crucial advancement in decreasing preventable mortality by facilitating timely access to essential care.
Dr. Dheeraj Gautam, in conversation with IANS, elaborated on the profound influence of Ayushman Bharat on early cancer detection.
"In the past, numerous patients were unable to afford the necessary screenings for early detection, which postponed treatment and inflated costs. Currently, Ayushman Bharat renders these vital tests economically accessible, enabling us to initiate treatment promptly. Early diagnosis significantly lowers treatment expenses and enhances survival rates, making this scheme a genuine game changer," he stated.
Dr. Nitin Sood, a haematologist focusing on blood cancers, shared a similar view, highlighting the critical nature of early diagnosis.
“The earlier cancer is identified and treated, the more favorable the results,” he remarked.
“A recent study published in The Lancet indicated that patients eligible for the PM-JAY scheme under Ayushman Bharat are more likely to recover due to timely diagnosis and treatment, facilitated by the financial assistance this scheme offers. By removing the financial hurdle, we ensure that more individuals receive prompt diagnoses and treatment, which is essential for achieving better results in cancer care."
Initiated in line with India’s National Health Policy 2017, Ayushman Bharat seeks to provide Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all citizens, with a strong emphasis on inclusivity and accessibility, particularly for marginalized groups. By addressing both preventive and specialized care, the initiative has the potential to transform the healthcare landscape.
Ayushman Bharat includes two primary components: Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) for primary care and the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), which offers financial support for advanced treatments such as cancer care. This comprehensive approach is dismantling the barriers to healthcare, making it more affordable, accessible, and fair for everyone.
