Bengaluru, Feb 21 (NationPress) The Rashtra Suraksha Jan Andolan Samiti and the BJP are set to hold a significant convention in Mysuru on February 24 to express their discontent regarding the alleged inaction of the Karnataka government in the Udayagiri police station attack incident.

So far, 17 individuals, including an Islamic religious teacher who allegedly incited the mob to assault the Udayagiri police station, have been apprehended.

Former Minister and senior BJP leader, N. Mahesh, informed IANS, "The convention on February 24, organized by the Rashtra Suraksha Jan Andolana Samiti in Mysuru, aims to decry the attack on the Udayagiri police station triggered by a social media post.

"An FIR has been lodged against 1,000 individuals, yet only 16 to 18 arrests have been made thus far. How is this justifiable?"

Reacting to the situation, Home Minister G. Parameshwara mentioned in Bengaluru on Friday that the arrests were executed based on CCTV evidence.

"A few individuals were detained within the first couple of days. The Maulvi who incited the attack was taken into custody on Thursday," HM Parameshwara stated.

When questioned about the BJP’s claims that the arrests were merely superficial, HM Parameshwara replied, "Let them voice their opinions. They are politicizing everything, and this case is no exception. As long as they remain in the Opposition, they will persist in their protests."

N. Mahesh told IANS, "We will press the government to uphold law and order and ensure effective policing to maintain peace. I will attend along with state BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra, Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka, Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Wadiyar, former BJP MP Pratap Simha, and others.

He further stressed that both the police and judiciary must hold the guilty accountable.

"If a mob demands that a person be surrendered to them, it is unconstitutional, and such occurrences are alarming. This convention is being held to awaken the Congress-led government to the pressing issues of ensuring security. It will be a peaceful event," Mahesh continued.

"We will also commend the police for managing the rioting crowd and restoring order," he emphasized.

The incident was sparked by an offensive social media post.

The suspect, Satish aka Panduranga, a resident of Kalyannagar in Mysuru, had shared a post mocking Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi, former Chief Ministers Akhilesh Yadav and Arvind Kejriwal. The accused further made inflammatory communal remarks against a specific religious group, and the post gained traction online.

A group from the minority community gathered outside the Udayagiri Police Station, demanding action against the accused.

Despite police efforts to calm the crowd and involving community leaders to de-escalate tensions, the situation escalated, leading to stone-pelting at the police station. The mob also attacked the official vehicle of the DCP.

They shouted slogans, and when the chaos intensified, police resorted to lathi-charge and deployed tear gas to disperse the rioting crowd.
