Hyderabad, Feb 4 (NationPress) Raising the banner of revolt, a Member of the Legislative Council from the ruling Congress party in Telangana took drastic action on Tuesday by setting ablaze the report of the caste survey, labeling it a conspiracy against the interests of backward classes.
In an audacious display of defiance, following the state government's presentation of the caste survey report in the State Legislature during a special session, Teenmaar Mallanna ignited the report in front of cameras.
This Legislative Council member firmly stated that he would categorically reject the report, describing it as a plot to jeopardize the future of backward classes.
Mallanna accused the report's figures of being false, asserting that the backward classes would no longer tolerate such misrepresentation. He pointed out that the survey overlooked 40 lakh backward classes.
He claimed that the government has misled the backward classes with deceptive statistics, arguing that while Hindu BCs constitute 60 percent of the state’s population, the government has presented their numbers as only 46 percent.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the population of Other Castes (OCs) was inaccurately projected at 15 percent, whereas the actual figure is merely 8 percent.
Mallanna implicated senior Congress figure and former minister K. Jana Reddy as being behind this survey.
His actions have sparked significant backlash from party officials, who are calling for disciplinary measures against him for burning the caste survey report and for his derogatory comments about the Reddy community.
The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) disciplinary committee is expected to issue a show-cause notice to the MLC.
TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud has received numerous petitions from party members urging action against Mallanna.
Congress MLA from Yadadri Bhongir, Kumbham Anil Kumar Reddy, remarked that the MLC has overstepped his bounds, asserting that the leadership would soon respond.
In the meantime, leaders from the Reddy community have lodged complaints with the Director General of Police (DGP) regarding the MLC.
Mallanna used offensive language against Reddys during a recent public meeting focused on backward classes in Warangal.
