Chennai, Feb 8 (NationPress) The Communist Party of India (CPI) has declared national protests against the Union Budget on Saturday, criticizing the total disregard for Tamil Nadu in fund allocations.
As part of the protest, CPI members plan to set fire to copies of the Union Budget on Saturday.
The CPI asserts that the budget overlooks critical challenges such as unemployment, inflation, and the declining rupee.
CPI General Secretary D. Raja remarked, “This budget misleads the impoverished and fails to provide sufficient funding for rural employment programs, education, and healthcare.”
He accused the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of prioritizing corporate interests, vigorously privatizing public sector companies, and ignoring essential economic issues.
Raja will join the protest at Flower Bazaar in Chennai, alongside CPI’s state secretary, R. Mutharasan.
Party leaders and MPs Subbarayan and Selvaraj will spearhead the protest marches in Tiruppur and Nagapattinam.
Emphasizing the necessity for unified opposition to BJP policies, he called for heightened public involvement in protests to defend democracy and economic fairness.
Moreover, Raja condemned U.S. President Donald Trump for the alleged inhumane treatment of Indian immigrants, citing reports that deportees were restrained during flights.
Referring to Trump’s policies as “imperialist madness,” he demanded a strong diplomatic backlash from the Indian government.
He also urged India to lend support to the Palestinian cause.
The CPI, a supporter of the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, currently represents two Lok Sabha seats.
Senior CPI leader K. Subbarayan won from the Tiruppur constituency, defeating his closest rival, P. Arunachalam of AIADMK, by a margin of 1,25,928 votes.
V. Selvaraj, the party’s candidate from the Nagapattinam (SC) Lok Sabha constituency, won by a margin of 2,08,957 votes against AIADMK candidate Surjeet Shankar.
Selvaraj, who has served as the Tiruvarur district secretary of the CPI, is also a renowned folk artist and has been an active member of the Tamil Nadu Kalai Ilakkiya Perumandram for nearly 40 years.
In the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, the CPI occupies two seats. Party candidate T. Ramachandran won from the Thalli Assembly constituency, while K. Marimuthu achieved victory in the Thiruthuraipoondi Assembly seat.
