New Delhi, Feb 4 (NationPress) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey has called upon Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to take action regarding a breach of privilege motion against Congress MP and Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, over his assertions in Parliament that Chinese troops were stationed on Indian territory.
Dubey accused the Congress leader of misrepresenting the truth and making unfounded allegations that “lower the prestige of our Republic”.
During the Budget Session, while addressing the President's speech, Rahul Gandhi launched a pointed critique against the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing it of failing to invigorate the manufacturing sector under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
He asserted that this failure resulted in the presence of Chinese troops on Indian soil, stating: “The reason China is inside our territory is because ‘Make in India’ has failed. India is refusing to produce, and I'm worried India is going to give up this revolution to the Chinese again.”
Gandhi also expressed concerns about unemployment, alleging that India had transferred production jobs to China.
In a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Dubey criticized the Congress MP for attempting to “ridicule our country” and urged action against the Leader of Opposition for misleading the Parliament.
He contended that Rahul Gandhi “shamelessly distorted historical and substantive facts” in his address.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju vehemently refuted Rahul Gandhi's statements, labeling them as “fake narratives” and accusing him of employing “frivolous language” that diminished parliamentary standards.
Rijiju further emphasized that the Congress MP ought to present evidence to substantiate his claims.
“We would like to remind him that such kinds of frivolous acts and language should not be repeatedly used,” Rijiju mentioned. He subsequently met Speaker Birla to request proof from Rahul Gandhi regarding his allegations.
The former Congress chief had also made assertions about China's territorial presence, stating, “Beijing is sitting on 4,000 sq km of our land”, and argued that the Indian Army had contradicted the government's claim that no land had been surrendered to China.
Earlier on Monday, BJP MPs had filed a privilege motion against Congress veteran Sonia Gandhi over her remark regarding President Droupadi Murmu being a “poor thing”.
