CM Yadav stated that he has communicated with Maharashtra's CM Fadnavis, sharing insights about the project, which has been in limbo for several years.
"I have expressed my thoughts to Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and he too is eager for tangible progress on the Tapti and Kanhan river projects that have lingered unresolved in Madhya Pradesh for years. We are advancing this initiative inspired by PM Modi and are actively working towards it," he remarked.
He mentioned that discussions are currently in the initial phase, with directives issued to Madhya Pradesh officials to accelerate project preparations.
CM Yadav emphasized that the government of Madhya Pradesh is diligently working on river linking in partnership with adjacent states.
"Our aim is to foster friendly and cooperative relations between states, which is why we are progressively addressing all long-standing issues. Today, we have made headway in the preliminary discussions on plans that have faced delays for years with Maharashtra concerning our rivers," he stated.
While underscoring the advantages of the proposed project, CM Yadav noted that it would supply irrigation water to approximately 123,000 hectares of new land.
In Maharashtra, they will also benefit from water access to 34,000 hectares.
"This initiative will aid numerous villages and districts. Ultimately, our goal is to ensure that every drop of river water is utilized for national benefit, supporting farmers, providing drinking water for urban and rural populations, and serving our industries," CM Yadav added.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that the Madhya Pradesh government has launched various initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, and river inter-linking projects are a key focus.
"We are committed to sharing the benefits of our state's rivers with neighboring states to ensure that farmers receive irrigation, drinking water is available, and sufficient water is allocated for industrial growth," he continued.
PM Modi laid the cornerstone for the significant Ken-Betwa river-linking project in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, last December.
The Madhya Pradesh government is also advancing the inter-linking of Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal rivers with Rajasthan.
