This declaration was made during a meeting with farmers from Burhanpur, led by former Minister and MLA Archana Chitnis, at the Chief Minister’s Office on Tuesday.

The Tapti Basin Mega Recharge project is projected to utilize a total of 31.13 thousand million cubic (TMC) feet of water, with 11.76 TMC designated for Madhya Pradesh and 19.36 TMC for Maharashtra. The project will require 3,362 hectares of land in Madhya Pradesh for the construction of dams and canals.

The government is actively addressing long-standing water-sharing disputes, ensuring adequate water supply for both farmers and industries.

Once the Tapti project is completed, it will establish a permanent irrigation system, benefiting 1,23,082 hectares of land in Madhya Pradesh and 2,34,706 hectares in Maharashtra.

The project will particularly benefit four tehsils in Madhya Pradesh, including Burhanpur, Nepanagar, Khaknar, and Khalwa in the Burhanpur and Khandwa districts, as previously stated by the state government.

In addition to providing water to the northern region of Maharashtra and the southern areas of Madhya Pradesh, the project aims to tackle drinking water challenges in Nagpur, Maharashtra, as well as irrigation requirements in Chhindwara.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav previously indicated that he had discussions with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is also eager to take concrete steps to resolve the issues surrounding the long-standing Tapti and Kanhan river water projects in partnership with Madhya Pradesh.
