Kolkata, Jan 12 (NationPress) The mobile phone tower locations of two individuals associated with the murder of Dulal Sarkar alias Babla, a councillor of the Trinamool Congress from the English Bazar municipality in Malda district, on January 2, are reportedly in constant flux, making it increasingly challenging for investigative authorities to track them down promptly, according to officials.
In the ongoing investigation, the state police have opted not to disclose the identities of the two suspected individuals, with insiders revealing that their names will only be made public once they are apprehended and brought before the court.
The police investigators are collaborating with the cyber crime unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to swiftly locate these two fugitives.
According to sources familiar with the situation, the mobile phone tower location was initially traced to Siliguri in Darjeeling district, which is in proximity to Malda, for a day following the murder.
Subsequently, the locations shifted to Nepal for several days, which is also near Siliguri.
However, in recent days, the tower locations have been fluctuating between Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, leading investigators to suspect that the absconding individuals are traversing areas close to the interstate borders of these states.
The principal suspect in the murder of Narendranath Tiwari, the Trinamool Congress president of Malda town and head of the party's Hindi cell district unit, is currently in police custody.
Investigators have also disclosed that the contract for the murder of Sarkar was set at over Rs 10 lakh, with hired assassins engaged for the act.
Sarkar was attacked on the morning of January 2 while standing at a busy intersection when three assailants wearing helmets arrived on a motorcycle, one of whom opened fire at the TMC councillor.
The first two shots missed, but the third hit Sarkar in the head.
The TMC councillor was promptly taken to Malda Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
