Patna, Feb 5 (NationPress) A devastating fire erupted in a residence situated in the Housing Board area, falling under the jurisdiction of the Kanti police station in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, on Sunday evening.

The blaze tragically claimed the lives of two individuals, while a woman and a child suffered minor injuries. Upon receiving the distress call, the fire brigade and local police promptly arrived at the scene.

After several hours of intense efforts, the fire was successfully brought under control. Local residents played a vital role in rescuing two individuals trapped within the burning structure.

Witnesses noted a strong odor of diesel and petrol wafting from the affected room, heightening suspicions regarding the fire's origin.

Authorities are currently probing the incident to ascertain if any flammable materials were stored inside the home.

The residence was rented by Mithlesh Kumar, a local of Nariyal in the Motipur police station area, who worked at a petrol station and resided there with his wife and child.

Mithlesh Kumar and his sister-in-law lost their lives in this tragic incident, while his wife and child sustained minor injuries.

The property belongs to Jitendra Shahi, a teacher residing in Veerpur, Kanti.

DSP Abhishek Anand confirmed that upon learning of the incident, the chief of the Kanti police station and other personnel arrived at the location to assist in extinguishing the fire.

“To ascertain the precise cause of the fire, a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been summoned for a thorough investigation. Two individuals were reported as charred to death, while two others sustained injuries in this unfortunate event,” Anand stated.
