Itanagar, Jan 20 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu, announced on Monday that the town of Nampong in the Changlang district, recognized as a significant site from World War II, possesses great historical, cultural, and economic value. For centuries, this area has served as a vital route for migration, trade, and cultural interactions.
The Chief Minister revealed that the state government plans to curate and restore all historical remnants from World War II in Nampong and redevelop them to boost tourism.
While inaugurating the three-day Pangsau Pass International Festival (PPIF) in Nampong, he stated, "We will soon engage experts to give Nampong a new look, reminiscent of the historic WWII period."
He highlighted that the PPIF exemplifies the intertwining of culture and economy.
"Through traditional songs, sports, and explorations of historic sites, we honor our heritage while laying the groundwork for a thriving future. This festival also serves as a platform for local artisans, traders, and entrepreneurs to display their skills and products, fostering economic growth and self-sufficiency," he added.
Khandu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhance infrastructure and connectivity to support the flourishing tourism sector in the Tirap, Changlang, and Longding (TCL) region.
By including these three districts in the tourist circuit and improving connectivity, he expressed confidence that tourism would thrive in the area, given its abundant potential.
"The construction of the double-lane National Highway linking Jairampur, Nampong, and Pangsau Pass is a significant step forward. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central government, we are experiencing unprecedented advancements in railway, road, and air connectivity, facilitating smooth travel and trade," Khandu explained.
He also mentioned the ambitious 2,500 km Frontier Highway that will stretch from Nafra in West Kameng to Vijaynagar in Changlang, noting that this, along with the interconnected corridor roads, will dramatically enhance road connectivity in the state.
“Once our connectivity improves, the entire state, particularly the TCL region, will see rapid development,” he stated.
Addressing the concept of ‘decentralisation’ of power, the Chief Minister shared that the state government would conduct its Cabinet meetings in various districts throughout the state.
These meetings will center around local issues. Khandu subsequently laid the foundation stones for four projects and inaugurated five initiatives specifically for the Nampong Assembly constituency.
He announced the approval of projects worth Rs 43 crores for the constituency. The PPIF had last taken place in 2020.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the festival could not be celebrated in 2021 and remained inactive since then. This year, the festival is being held from January 20 to 22 after a four-year hiatus.
