Kolkata, Jan 20 (NationPress) A special court in Kolkata has found Sanjay Roy guilty of the brutal rape and murder of a junior female doctor at the R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, sentencing him to life imprisonment. The victim's parents assert that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) failed to establish that this crime is a “rarest of rare crimes”.

During the proceedings, Judge Anirban Das emphasized that the imposition of “life imprisonment” instead of a “death penalty” was due to the crime not meeting the criteria of a “rarest of rare crimes”.

“My daughter was first assaulted in the hospital during her working hours and then killed. Is this not a ‘rarest of rare crimes’? This reflects the CBI's total inadequacy in proving the case,” stated the victim's mother shortly after the ruling.

Gratitude was expressed by the victim's father towards the judge for enabling them to pursue further justice for their daughter and for other women.

“The judge’s decisions stemmed from his understanding. We have not yet received justice; we have merely taken the initial step forward. The judge has facilitated our path to the next phase,” he remarked.

Despite the court's order for the state government to provide them with Rs 17 lakh in compensation, they have made it clear they will not accept this.

“We refuse to accept any compensation. We have conveyed this to the judge. No amount can replace our daughter's life. True justice for our daughter will only be achieved when all actual perpetrators are held accountable,” the victim's father declared.
