New Delhi, March 14 (NationPress) The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed that the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier will take place at two venues in Lahore from April 9-19. A total of six teams will vie for two spots in the main tournament, which is set to occur in India during October-November. Already qualified are Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, along with the hosts, India, all thanks to their performances in the top six of the 10-team ICC Women’s Championship (2022-25).
This sixth iteration of the Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier will feature teams from four Full Members – Bangladesh, Ireland, Pakistan, and the West Indies – competing against Associate nations Scotland and Thailand in a series of 15 matches.
Bangladesh, Ireland, Pakistan, and the West Indies entered the qualifying tournament after finishing in the seventh to tenth positions in the ICC Women’s Championship. Meanwhile, Thailand and Scotland qualified as the next two best-ranked teams in the ICC Women’s ODI Team Rankings as of October 28, 2024.
The tournament will kick off with hosts Pakistan facing Ireland at the Gaddafi Stadium, while the West Indies will compete against Scotland at the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA). “We are delighted to announce the schedule for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2025,” stated ICC CEO Geoff Allardice.
“The six participating teams are just a step away from the Women’s Cricket World Cup, and I am confident they are all looking forward to this competition. On behalf of the ICC, I wish the teams the best of luck in Lahore as they prepare for the Cricket World Cup later this year,” he added.
Some thrilling matches in the tournament include Pakistan versus the West Indies on April 14 at the Gaddafi Stadium in a day-night fixture, Bangladesh playing against the West Indies at the LCCA on April 17, and a sub-continental showdown between Pakistan and Bangladesh at the LCCA on April 19. Day matches will commence at 9:30 am local time, while day/night matches will start at 2 pm local time.
