Raipur, Feb 8 (NationPress) The Delhi Royals celebrated their inaugural victory in the Legend 90 League with a commanding 41-run win against the Rajasthan Kings during Match 4 held at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Setting a formidable total of 195/3 in 90 balls, the Delhi Royals successfully defended their score, limiting the Rajasthan Kings to 154/4.
After winning the toss, Rajasthan Kings captain Ankit Rajpoot chose to bowl first, a decision that Delhi Royals capitalized on. Shikhar Dhawan ignited the innings with an explosive start, striking three consecutive fours in the opening over bowled by Rajpoot. He and Lendl Simmons formed a robust 60-run partnership before falling to Sudeep Tyagi.
Simmons, in his season debut, continued to shine, putting together an impressive 82-run partnership with Angelo Perera for the third wicket. The former West Indies opener scored 87 runs off a mere 39 balls, hitting 12 fours and four sixes, narrowly missing a century.
Perera added the finishing touches, remaining not out with 54 runs off 24 balls, including six fours and three sixes, which helped the Delhi Royals achieve a daunting total of 195/3 in just 15 overs.
In their chase of 196, the Rajasthan Kings encountered an early setback as opener Phil Mustard was dismissed for a duck in the first over by Parvinder Awana, who bowled a wicket-maiden.
Despite some resistance from Gaurav Tomar (34 off 18) and Rajesh Bishnoi (31 off 12), the Rajasthan Kings struggled to gain momentum. Bipul Sharma was pivotal with the ball, taking three wickets and reducing the Kings to 78/4.
Rajat Singh, the Kings' leading scorer from their previous match, fought valiantly, remaining unbeaten on 48 runs off 32 balls. Together with Manpreet Gony, they attempted to revive the innings, but the target proved insurmountable.
Bipul concluded with impressive match figures of 3-18, while Awana contributed with 1-15, including a maiden over, sealing the victory for the Delhi Royals.
