New Delhi, Feb 11 (NationPress) Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan has expressed his apprehensions regarding the head coach of Team India, Gautam Gambhir, and his overly flexible strategy in the white-ball format. Zaheer warns that excessive experimentation and constant alterations may result in player uncertainty.
While he recognizes the significance of flexibility, Zaheer emphasized the necessity for clear communication and structured guidelines to uphold squad stability.
“You’ve mentioned that flexibility is crucial. The first two slots will remain fixed, but the rest should be adaptable. Even within that flexibility, certain rules must be observed,” Zaheer articulated on Cricbuzz.
“There are specific protocols to adhere to. Certain communications need to transpire to streamline operations. Failing to do so risks creating insecurity, which can ultimately backfire,” he added.
Zaheer further highlighted the importance of a well-organized system to ensure the team adapts to the ever-changing demands of modern cricket.
“That’s why I mentioned that recency bias is quite pronounced at this moment. The scenario has shifted dynamically when comparing Rahul Dravid’s and Gautam Gambhir’s methodologies. One can debate whether it’s good, bad, or ugly, but the real question is how do we adjust? Every stakeholder, be it senior management, the think tank, players, or selectors, must assess and optimize the system for everything to function effectively,” he stated.
Despite these reservations, Team India has demonstrated impressive performance under Gambhir’s guidance. They recently achieved a 4-1 triumph in the T20I series against England and currently possess a commanding 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match ODI series.
The concluding ODI is set to take place on Wednesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where India aims to complete a series sweep.
