New Delhi, Feb 22 (NationPress) Former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as Principal Secretary-2 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to an official announcement made on Saturday.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has sanctioned the appointment of Shri Shaktikanta Das, IAS (Retired) (TN:80) as Principal Secretary-2 to the Prime Minister, effective from the day he assumes his role. His tenure will coincide with the term of the Prime Minister or until further directives are issued, whichever comes first, stated Manisha Saxena, the Secretary of the Union Cabinet's Appointments Committee.

Das is a former IAS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre and has previously held positions as Union Revenue Secretary and Economic Affairs Secretary. He will be working alongside the current Principal Secretary to the PM, Dr. P.K. Mishra, in this prestigious position.

Following his time in the Finance Ministry, Das also represented India as the Sherpa to the G20 from November 2017 until December 2018.

He was appointed as the 25th Governor of the RBI in December 2018 and served until December 10, 2024, when he turned over his responsibilities to Sanjay Malhotra, a 1990 Rajasthan-cadre IAS officer.
