New Delhi, Feb 22 (NationPress) The recently inaugurated Dipka Megaproject of South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL) in Chhattisgarh has effectively initiated operations for new silos aimed at eco-friendly coal evacuation as part of the First Mile Connectivity (FMC) initiative, the government announced on Saturday.

The Dipka Megaproject kicked off new operations by loading its first coal rake from the newly constructed Rapid Loading System and Silos 3 and 4, marking a significant advancement in enhancing eco-friendly and efficient coal transportation, as detailed in a statement from the Ministry of Coal.

The 'Dipka CHP-Silo FMC' project boasts an annual coal evacuation capacity of 25 million tonnes.

SECL, a subsidiary of Coal India, is intensifying initiatives to improve safe and sustainable coal evacuation from its mines through first-mile connectivity (FMC) projects under the supervision of the Ministry of Coal.

Prior to the introduction of the new silo, Dipka depended on a Merry-Go-Round (MGR) dispatch system with a capacity of 15 MTPA.

With the launch of Silos 3 and 4, Dipka’s overall coal dispatch capacity has now risen to 40 million tonnes per annum, effectively aligning transportation infrastructure with production rates, according to the ministry.

Under the ministry's direction, SECL has prioritized the advancement of FMC infrastructure as part of the PM Gatishakti Plan. SECL has initiated 17 FMC projects with a combined capacity of 233 MTPA.

Out of these, nine projects with a total capacity of 151 MTPA have already been launched, illustrating the company’s dedication to modernizing coal transport.

The remaining eight FMC projects, amounting to 82 MTPA capacity, are at various stages of development, with plans to complete them in the next 2-3 years.

The implementation of FMC infrastructure at Dipka offers numerous advantages, including enhanced efficiency and precise loading, reducing both underloading and overloading of coal in rakes, quicker loading times, shorter turnaround times, improved rake availability, and higher coal quality.

Moreover, it decreases reliance on road transport, resulting in savings on diesel costs and a healthier environment.
