Mumbai, Jan 21 (NationPress) The destinies of Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh are closely linked through their respective films, “Emergency” and “Panjab 95”, amidst ongoing discussions surrounding both projects.

On Tuesday morning, Diljit shared an Instagram post expressing his regret that his film “Panjab 95” has encountered another setback regarding its release in India.

He stated, “We are very sorry and it pains us to inform you that the movie Panjab 95 will not release on 7th Feb due to circumstances beyond our control.”

This movie, which tells the story of notable Sikh human rights advocate Jaswant Singh Khalra, was initially titled Ghalughara, meaning massacre, but faced censorship issues that led to its renaming to Panjab 95 after 120 scene cuts.

The Sikh religious body, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), intervened, and while the Censor Board agreed to some cuts, they insisted on a title change. Reports indicate that the film's trailer was uploaded on YouTube but was removed the very next day.

In contrast, Kangana's film “Emergency” has been stalled in Patiala, Amritsar, and Bathinda due to concerns over protests.

Protests erupted throughout Punjab as various leaders from Sikh organizations, including the SGPC, called for a ban on “Emergency”, claiming it “tarnishes the image of Sikhs and distorts history.”

An SGPC tweet emphasized their demand for a ban on the film in Punjab, which is set to premiere on January 17, 2025.

The film is expected to spark controversy due to its content, which revisits the tumultuous era of the 1975 Emergency declared by then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. It explores the historical and political turbulence of that time, shining a light on a chapter that still ignites divisive sentiments across the nation.
