Los Angeles, Feb 22 (NationPress) Hollywood actress Mikey Madison has disclosed that she underwent extensive lap dancing training for her character in ‘Anora’.
The 25-year-old actress takes on the role of the lead stripper in director Sean Baker’s dark romantic comedy, and she embraced the challenge of her dance sequences, as reported by ‘Female First UK’.
In an interview with HELLO! magazine, she shared, “I needed to learn how to perform lap dances and execute pole tricks. I even contributed to choreographing a striptease that Ani does for Ivan. All of this was a result of the intensive training I underwent to ensure I could deliver a lap dance from start to finish. I’m not a dancer at all, so it was a wonderful opportunity to push myself. The choreographer instructed me on how to move like a genuine erotic dancer.”
She added, “This training was invaluable for understanding physicality and sensuality, and it helped me with how I carried myself and walked in heels.”
According to ‘Female First UK’, Mikey regarded her research for this role as a very significant experience. She elaborated, “It was a meaningful journey, allowing me to connect with and understand the sex work community. I consulted with some remarkable individuals who infused a lot of authenticity and life into Ani, and I was able to weave what I learned into the film. So stepping into her shoes – or pleasers, to be literal – was truly enjoyable.”
The ‘Better Things’ actress believes her role in ‘Anora’ is the most unique she has ever undertaken. She remarked, “I learned numerous lessons throughout the filmmaking process. I can genuinely say she is one of the most special characters I’ve ever portrayed.”
She expressed her appreciation that director Sean Baker chose her for the film. She stated, “Sean has committed his career to combatting the stigma surrounding sex work and telling stories of marginalized individuals.”
“He tackles serious subjects but always incorporates humor. Therefore, I had complete trust in Sean,” she concluded.
