The victim, a man in his 40s, succumbed to life-threatening injuries to his neck sustained during the shark bite incident in the waters near Yeppoon, marking the second such occurrence in Central Queensland within a month.
A spokesman for the Queensland Police Service stated that the man was engaged in fishing with family members when the shark struck. The attack occurred around 4:37 p.m. on Saturday, according to Xinhua news agency, which cited the Brisbane-based The Courier Mail daily newspaper.

The New South Wales (NSW) Ambulance emergency services reported that their team was dispatched just after 11:00 a.m. local time to North Shore Beach at Port Macquarie, following reports of a shark bite.

North Shore Beach extends over 10 km and is situated in the mid-north of New South Wales, more than 300 km north of the state capital, Sydney.
In response to the incident, a local lifesaving agency and bystanders provided assistance using makeshift tourniquets.
Beaches between North Shore and Lighthouse Beach (Tacking Point) were closed for at least 24 hours, reported the Port Macquarie Hastings ALS Lifeguards.
According to the SharkSmart map managed by the NSW state government, surveillance drones have been deployed in the area.
