Seoul, Feb 11 (NationPress) North Korea is estimated to have dispatched approximately 200 long-range artillery pieces to Russia and is anticipated to send additional troops and weaponry to support Moscow's efforts in the war against Ukraine, stated South Korea's defence ministry on Tuesday.

This evaluation follows a report from South Korea's intelligence agency, which suggested that the North had sent around 11,000 troops to assist Russia, with estimated casualties of 300 killed and roughly 2,700 wounded.

According to the ministry, North Korea has supplied about 11,000 soldiers, missiles, 200 long-range artillery units, and a considerable quantity of ammunition, with potential for further supplies of troops, arms, and ammunition in the future.

The ministry indicated that North Korea is likely to intensify its weapons development efforts this year, marking the final year of its five-year plan aimed at advancing sophisticated weaponry, which includes nuclear-powered submarines, spy satellites, and solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs).

Additionally, there is speculation about North Korea receiving technological support from Russia in exchange for military assistance, particularly in areas such as nuclear-powered submarine technology and atmospheric re-entry technology for ICBMs.

In terms of its relations with the United States, the ministry noted that Pyongyang seems to be attempting to create favorable conditions for dialogue with Washington through provocative rhetoric and actions, as reported by Yonhap news agency.

North Korea has yet to respond to US President Donald Trump's expressed interest in re-engaging with Kim Jong-un. Instead, they have proceeded with missile tests and publicized Kim's visit to a nuclear-material production facility.

A senior Russian official has stated that all conditions set by President Vladimir Putin must be fully met before the conflict in Ukraine can conclude.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov remarked that achieving a peace agreement brokered by the US would be unfeasible if Trump undermines Putin's primary objectives.
