New Delhi, Jan 22 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking announcement, Sam Altman-led OpenAI unveiled the Stargate Project, which aims to channel $500 billion over the next four years into establishing new AI infrastructure in the US, in collaboration with SoftBank, Oracle, and MGX. In response, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, remarked on Wednesday that “they don’t actually have the money.”

OpenAI disclosed that they would commence the deployment of $100 billion right away.

“This infrastructure will ensure American leadership in AI, create hundreds of thousands of jobs for Americans, and yield substantial economic advantages globally. This initiative will not only aid in the re-industrialization of the United States but will also enhance national security capabilities for America and its allies,” stated the creator of ChatGPT.

The primary equity investors in Stargate include SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, and MGX.

SoftBank and OpenAI will serve as the leading partners for Stargate, with SoftBank assuming financial responsibilities and OpenAI handling operations. Masayoshi Son will chair the project.

Notable initial technology collaborators include Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI.

In reaction to this announcement, Musk expressed skepticism, stating that they lack the financial resources to support such an extensive initiative.

In a separate comment, Musk endorsed an X user who claimed that ‘OpenAI and Microsoft are finished.’ He replied, “Seems to be the case,” affirming the view.

OpenAI noted that the expansion is underway, starting in Texas, and “we are assessing potential locations across the nation for additional campuses as we finalize definitive agreements.”

“As part of the Stargate initiative, Oracle, NVIDIA, and OpenAI will work closely together to develop and manage this computing system. This builds on a longstanding collaboration between OpenAI and NVIDIA dating back to 2016, as well as a more recent partnership with Oracle,” the company shared on X.

The announcement was made during a press briefing at the White House on Tuesday, where President Donald Trump discussed plans for investment in US infrastructure.
