Kolkata, April 24 (NationPress) Tension escalated in Salanpur, located in the West Burdwan district of West Bengal, after a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances. The deceased, identified as Sunil Kumar Paswan, was shot on Wednesday night.
Paswan, a resident of Mihijam in neighboring Jharkhand, was stationed in Bokaro. He had land in Salanpur where he had recently initiated construction activities.
The jawan's body was found late Wednesday night on his property. Police reported the presence of several liquor bottles and glasses at the scene.
Investigators suspect that a group, including the victim, may have been drinking on-site. Authorities are not ruling out the possibility that a drunken altercation occurred, leading to the shooting and Paswan's subsequent death.
Pankaj Sharma, a local friend of Paswan, stated that the deceased CISF jawan, a head constable, was on leave to inspect the ongoing construction on his land.
Ajit Paswan, the younger brother of the deceased, expressed his shock after being informed of his brother’s shooting. “Upon arriving at the scene, I found my brother's body in a pool of blood. He was supposed to return to duty soon,” Ajit shared.
As of the time of this report, investigators appeared to lack leads on the identity of the assailants. The body has been dispatched for a post-mortem examination.
“Initially, the number of empty liquor bottles and glasses found at the murder scene suggests that a group, including the victim, was likely drinking there. A quarrel could have erupted, resulting in the shooting. Nonetheless, we are actively investigating to identify those responsible for this crime,” a police official from the district remarked.
