Bhopal, Dec 22 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijaya Singh, has accused the BJP of orchestrating the incident that transpired near the Parliament gate, which led to a physical confrontation between members of the ruling party and the opposition. Speaking to reporters after attending a condolence meeting for the late former Madhya Pradesh Home Minister, Bharat Singh, in Ratlam on Saturday, Singh stated that while the opposition has historically protested within the Parliament grounds, it was unprecedented for ruling party MPs to obstruct the entry of opposition members.
As a second-term Rajya Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh, Digvijaya Singh participated in the protest on December 19 at the Parliament site, asserting that the Opposition holds the right to voice their dissent against the government's 'misconduct.'
Singh condemned Amit Shah's remarks regarding Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, stating they are reprehensible, and emphasized that the opposition is demanding an apology from him. He urged Shah to apologize and step down from his position on moral grounds, but claimed he is being protected by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to Singh, the chaos instigated by BJP MPs was a calculated maneuver to shift focus away from pressing issues.
Additionally, the Congress leader criticized the security protocols at the new Parliament, suggesting that the violent confrontation at Makar Gate could have been prevented with timely action from security personnel. “What was the Chief Security Officer doing?” he questioned.
“Having served in the State Assembly and Parliament for the past 45 years, I have witnessed opposition protests on these premises, but I have never seen members of the ruling party protesting here,” he remarked.
The clash arose as members of the NDA and the Opposition organized separate protests outside Parliament in response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's comments about B. R. Ambedkar. The situation intensified into a physical conflict, resulting in jostling and injuries among the members.
BJP MP Pratap Sarangi suffered a forehead injury during the altercation and was subsequently hospitalized. The BJP accused Congress MP Rahul Gandhi of pushing another MP, which allegedly caused them to fall on Sarangi, a claim that Congress has denied. Another BJP MP, Mukesh Rajput, was also injured and later required hospitalization.
In the aftermath of the incident, Rahul Gandhi encountered legal challenges as BJP leader Hemang Joshi filed a complaint against him, sources disclosed. Joshi accused Gandhi of “physical assault and incitement” amidst the Parliament scuffle.
The case was lodged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 117 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 125 (endangering life or safety), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intention to commit crime), according to sources.
