Gurugram, April 28 (NationPress) As part of the extensive flood preparedness strategies being implemented by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) before the onset of the monsoon season, mock drills are set to take place at 21 underpasses throughout the city. These drills aim to verify the operational efficiency of the pumping equipment and diesel generators, ensuring that no waterlogging occurs in the underpasses during the rainy season.
According to Vikram Singh, Executive Engineer at GMDA, "Mock drills have been planned for every underpass in the city. The drainage systems and pumps installed in these underpasses will be evaluated to determine their effectiveness in preventing any water accumulation during the monsoon. Any necessary remedial actions will be prioritized by the relevant departments to mitigate waterlogging issues and minimize disruption for commuters during the rainy season."
The mock drills will be conducted by GMDA in collaboration with officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Public Works Department (PWD), and DLF, according to their respective jurisdictions, on the following dates:
- Ambience Mall, Subhash Chowk, and Shankar Chowk on May 5
- Iffco Chowk Metro Station to MG Road and Dhanwapur Underpass on May 6
- Vatika Chowk and Signature Tower on May 7
- Rajiv Chowk and Medanta Road on May 8
- Hero Honda Chowk on May 9
- Sector-110/113 and Sector-109/110 Underpasses on May 12
- Sector-102/104 Underpass on May 13
- Sector 84/36B underpass on May 14
Additionally, both U-turn underpasses in DLF Cyber City will be drilled on May 6, followed by Sikanderpur Underpass on May 7, DLF Phase-I underpass on May 8, and Genpact Underpass on May 9. GMDA will also conduct mock drills with PWD officials at Atul Kataria Chowk on May 10 and Mahavir Chowk on May 11. The drill at Huda City Centre underpass is scheduled for May 8.
Traffic flow will remain unaffected during the mock drills in the underpasses.
