Imphal, March 14 (NationPress) In a coordinated effort, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, along with various security agencies, seized 50 firearms, a significant amount of ammunition, and military supplies across four districts in conflict-affected Manipur, officials reported on Friday.

A Defence spokesperson stated that this operation involved the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, and Manipur Police, who conducted intelligence-led missions in the hilly and valley regions of Chandel, Imphal West, Kakching, and Thoubal districts, resulting in the recovery of 50 weapons, Improvised Explosive Devices, grenades, ammunition, and military supplies over the past 48 hours.

The security forces also dismantled bunkers in the Kangpokpi district, which were constructed by local armed groups, including Koki-Zo and Meitei volunteers, to protect their communities.

According to the Defence spokesperson, among the 50 recovered arms, the Army and Assam Rifles, acting on intelligence leads, found 23 improvised mortars (Pompi), three AK series rifles, one INSAS rifle, one carbine, two muzzle-loaded rifles, one .303 rifle, five pistols, along with a substantial amount of ammunition from the Laijang area in the hilly region of Chandel.

In the Thoubal district, the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police seized two 9 mm carbines, one 12 bore rifle, one Single Barrel Breach Loading rifle, and three pistols. Additionally, one mortar, one 12 bore rifle, and one pistol were confiscated from the Singjamei area in Imphal West during a joint operation involving the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police, as stated by the spokesperson.

In another joint operation by the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police, a carbine, one .303 rifle, and two single barrel rifles were recovered from the Wangoo area in Kakching district.

The seized items have been transferred to the Manipur Police. The Defence spokesperson emphasized that these collaborative actions by the security forces underscore their steadfast dedication to ensuring peace and security in Manipur, which has experienced significant unrest over the past two years.
