Kota, Feb 11 (NationPress) In a tragic turn of events, yet another NEET aspirant has taken his own life in Kota, bringing the city's student suicide count to seven this year.
The individual, identified as 18-year-old Ankush Meena, was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in his PG accommodation located in the Pratap Nagar area of Dadabari locality. Originally from Sawai Madhopur, Ankush had been residing in Kota for the past two years to prepare for the NEET medical entrance examination.
The grim discovery was made when the PG owner, concerned after Ankush did not respond to repeated knocks, broke down the door and found him hanging. Authorities stated that the precise motives behind the suicide are still unknown, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain whether academic pressure or personal issues contributed to this tragedy.
Ankush's family has been notified, and his remains have been sent to the MBS Hospital mortuary. A postmortem is scheduled to take place following their arrival, according to police reports.
Circle Inspector Mangelal Yadav from Dadabari Police Station confirmed that a report regarding the suicide was received at around 9 a.m. Initial investigations indicate that Ankush may have succumbed to personal challenges. Police revealed that he had spoken to his father earlier the same morning before the incident.
Having moved into his current accommodation just two months ago, his cousin, residing nearby, was the first to discover the situation and notify the landlord, who subsequently contacted the police.
Landlord Yogesh Bansal mentioned that Ankush had previously lived in a nearby PG but opted for a different environment for more tranquility during exams. He clarified that the room was rented to Ankush and a friend upon request and was not part of an official PG setup.
Kota, recognized as a prominent coaching hub, is facing a distressing increase in student suicides. Before Ankush's tragic incident, six such cases had already been documented this year.
Just last month, on January 21, a student from Assam’s Nagaon took his own life. Mere hours prior, a young woman from Ahmedabad, who had traveled to Kota to prepare for NEET, was also found hanging in her hostel room located in Jawahar Nagar.
Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar has called upon parents to refrain from imposing undue career pressures on their children. In 2023, at least 23 students have died by suicide in Kota, following a record of 17 such deaths in 2022.
