Kolkata, Feb 22 (NationPress) More than six months have gone by since the tragic rape and murder of a junior female doctor at Kolkata's R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, yet her parents have not received a copy of her death certificate.
The remains of the victim were discovered in a seminar hall on the grounds of the state-run institution in the early hours of August 9 last year.
The parents of the victim have expressed their frustration, stating that they have been unable to obtain the death certificate due to the R.G. Kar and Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) authorities passing the buck to one another.
The KMC claims that since the “place of death” is R.G. Kar, it is the hospital’s duty to issue the death certificate.
Conversely, the R.G. Kar management asserts that if a patient dies on its premises or is brought in deceased, the KMC is responsible for providing the death certificate, according to the parents.
The parents further revealed that while they have not received a copy of the death certificate, it has been referenced in court documents, based on statements from a medical officer associated with R.G. Kar.
They now question why the certificate has not been provided to them if it is indeed mentioned in the court documents.
Recently, a special court in Kolkata, which had previously convicted and sentenced civic volunteer Sanjay Roy in this rape and murder case, instructed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit a new progress report on its investigation by February 24.
Given that the special court has already delivered a verdict concerning the convict for the principal crime of rape and murder, legal experts believe that the new progress report will address potential evidence tampering in the case.
It has been reported that the special court mandated the CBI to provide an updated report following a complaint by the victim's family’s attorney, who accused the agency of failing to keep the court informed about the investigation’s progress.
