Mumbai, Jan 24 (NationPress) Actor Saif Ali Khan has provided his testimony to the Mumbai Police following the attack at his residence on January 16.
The actor sustained stab wounds when an intruder entered his home, seemingly for a burglary.
Khan recorded his statement at the Bandra police station on Thursday.
According to sources, Khan detailed the event, stating that he and his actress spouse, Kareena Kapoor Khan, were in their bedroom on the 11th floor of the Satguru Sharan building when they heard the nanny of their younger son, Jeh, scream.
Awakened by the cries, Khan and Kareena hurried to their son's room, where they encountered the alleged assailant. The nanny, Eliyama Philips, was terrified and screaming, while Jeh was in tears, Khan recounted to the police, as per the sources.
Upon entering Jeh's room, Khan discovered his son crying, and the nanny informed him that the intruder had demanded Rs one crore. Khan attempted to intervene, but the assailant stabbed him multiple times on his back, neck, and hands, according to police reports.
Despite his injuries, Khan managed to push the intruder into the room while the nanny fled with Jeh and secured the door, the sources added.
Sources further indicated that Khan mentioned everyone was frightened upon seeing the stranger, and he tried to subdue him.
Khan and his family, including his wife and actor Kareena Kapoor, as well as their two sons, Jeh and Taimur, were at home when the intruder entered for what appeared to be a burglary. The alleged attacker, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, who had illegally entered India from Bangladesh last year, was apprehended near Thane on January 19 after a three-day search involving at least 20 teams from the Mumbai Police.
The police previously stated that the individual who broke into the actor's flat did so with the intent to steal. Fingerprints collected from Saif Ali Khan's Bandra flat matched those of Shehzad. The prints were discovered on the duct pipe that the suspect allegedly used to climb to the building's floor. Additional prints were located on the door handle of Jeh's room.
However, Shehzad's father, Md Ruhul Amin Fakir, told IANS that the person captured in the CCTV footage from Saif Ali Khan's residence does not resemble his son.
According to Fakir, the images from the CCTV showing a suspect with long hair do not align with his son's typical appearance. "From what is shown in the CCTV... my son never keeps his hair long. I believe my son is being framed," Fakir asserted, denying any connection between his son’s usual appearance and the individual seen in the footage.
