Mumbai, Jan 24 (NationPress) The chief of the Mumbai unit of BJP and the state Information Technology Minister, Ashish Shelar, mocked Shiv Sena-UBT leader Uddhav Thackeray on Friday, stating that the former chief minister's current predicament is akin to Asrani's role in the classic 1975 Hindi film, 'Sholay'.

Shelar remarked: "Uddhav Thackeray's current state is reminiscent of Asrani's character from 'Sholay', and perhaps this is why he claims he will fight independently. Uddhav Thackeray has garnered a reputation as a 'traitorous leader' in contemporary Maharashtra."

This comment was in response to Thackeray's criticisms of Home Minister Amit Shah during a rally held the previous day.

Thackeray had stated: "Amit Shah will not determine my position; my Shivsainiks will. I will not be defeated by the onslaught of traitors, but only by burying them (traitors)."

He accused Amit Shah of manipulating state resources, including the Election Commission of India (ECI), to secure electoral victories in Maharashtra and challenged him to conduct at least one election using ballot papers instead of electronic voting machines (EVMs).

In response, Shelar added, "Mr Uddhav Thackeray, do you plan to harm Amit Shah? How? When? First, inspect the marks you bear on your own back from abandoning your elderly father, the pride of all Hindus, the esteemed Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray, during the devastating floods of July 26 when you sought refuge in a five-star hotel instead of confronting the Mithi River's floods. The repercussions of that unfortunate event remain deeply etched on your back and your life. Why don't you stand before the mirror at Matoshree and take a look at yourself?"

Shelar further condemned Thackeray for disseminating inaccurate information regarding the Jana Sangh and its historical relevance.

In a post on X, Shelar stated, "Mr Uddhav Thackeray was born on July 27, 1960, which means he lacks reason to be informed about the Jana Sangh, established in 1951. Additionally, when the leaders of the Jana Sangh convened in Delhi on April 5 and 6, 1980, to form a new political entity, Mr Thackeray was merely 20 years old and had no grounds for knowledge regarding this matter."

"In fact, we wish to remind Mr Uddhav Thackeray, who was then preoccupied with photography and just out of his teenage years, to refrain from commenting on the foundation of Jana Sangh and the BJP. Why is he discussing the Sangh, which is nearing its centenary? Our leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have elevated our nation's prestige globally, and both Modi and Amit Shah have played vital roles in establishing the BJP as the foremost political party worldwide. Understanding the history of Maharashtra and the Jana Sangh cannot be achieved simply by perusing a few socialist texts," Shelar remarked.

"Do you ever notice the scars on your face, the harm you've inflicted on Mumbai through corrupt dealings with contractors, and the deep emotional wounds you've caused Mumbaikars? Look into the mirror for this as well. Only then will you grasp the depth of the injuries you've caused this city. Or perhaps there is something obstructing your comprehension," he concluded.
