New Delhi, Feb 22 (NationPress) JD-U leader K. C. Tyagi asserted on Saturday that senior Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is "unhappy" with the present condition of his party, amidst increasing speculation of an internal division following Tharoor's recent comments.
Tharoor reportedly urged Rahul Gandhi to clarify his position within the party during a recent meeting in Delhi, showcasing his frustration at feeling overlooked. Sources indicate that Rahul Gandhi did not provide a clear answer to his concerns.
In a conversation with IANS, Tyagi remarked, "Shashi Tharoor is discontented with the political confinement that has developed within the Congress party."
"Commending other political entities in a specific context is not an act against the party. This has occurred on numerous occasions previously, and I fully concur with Shashi Tharoor," he added.
Tharoor, who has served as an MP four times, has openly expressed his discontent with the Congress leadership at both state and national levels.
His recent article in a prominent English daily lauding the Pinarayi Vijayan-led Left government in Kerala and acknowledging Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the US ignited controversy within his party.
His statements drew criticism from Congress leaders in Kerala, while the CPI-M embraced them as validation of its governance. Chief Minister Vijayan capitalized on the moment, describing Tharoor's remarks as recognition of his administration's successes.
Despite the increasing backlash from party members, Tharoor has denied lodging any formal grievances about feeling sidelined.
"I have never made any complaint against anyone," he asserted.
Earlier, addressing criticism regarding his article on Kerala's startup sector, Tharoor expressed astonishment over the uproar via Facebook.
"As a Member of Parliament from Kerala, I penned this article concentrating on a particular topic—the transformation of the industrial landscape through the growth of the startup sector. As a Congress worker, I take pride in acknowledging that it was former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy who initiated this change," he articulated in Malayalam.
He credited Chandy's policies for establishing the groundwork for Kerala's startup ecosystem, highlighting initiatives such as the Startup Village and the Kerala Startup Mission, which continue under the current government.
Tharoor's escalating discord with the Congress leadership surfaces ahead of significant political conflicts, prompting questions about his future within the party.
