New Delhi, Feb 22 (NationPress) Following a controversial statement where he suggested to throttle Mayawati, Congress leader Udit Raj on Saturday requested protection from the Delhi Police, claiming he faces a threat from BSP leader Akash Anand and other party members.

Udit Raj has urged for an FIR against those threatening him, stating in a letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner that a news clip circulating on the YouTube channel ‘Bahujan Dastak’ features an interviewer inciting the public to slit his throat, even offering a reward of Rs one lakh for such an act.

He mentioned that since the clip was uploaded on YouTube, he has observed strangers loitering around his home, posing a serious risk to his life. “I fear that without immediate security, an unfortunate incident may occur,” he stated.

“I kindly request you to take prompt legal action and instruct the relevant SHO to file an FIR and take strict measures against the offenders while ensuring the safety of myself and my family,” he wrote. Udit Raj also holds the positions of National Chairman of the All India Unorganised Workers and Employees Congress (KKC) and Chairman of the Dalit, OBC, Minority and Adivasi Parisangh (DOMA Parisangh).

In his correspondence, the Congress leader reported receiving threatening calls on his mobile and his assistant's numbers since the day after his remarks about Mayawati on February 17.

“On that same evening at approximately 4:57 p.m., my PS received a call from an unknown number, where the caller threatened to inflict physical harm on me, stating he was instructed by Mayawati and Akash Anand to do so. He warned me of severe repercussions if I continued to speak against her,” he recounted.

The controversy ignited when Udit Raj made his remarks on February 17 during an event in Lucknow, where he claimed Mayawati should be throttled for allegedly suppressing social welfare initiatives.

Mayawati responded strongly, asserting, “The Congress, which has consistently disregarded Bhimrao Ambedkar’s fight for the dignity and self-worth of countless oppressed Dalits and Bahujans, can never be faithful to his ideals and policies.”

Additionally, BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain remarked, “The Congress is insulting Dalits with this statement. They are disrespecting a significant Dalit leader like Mayawati. It’s time to throttle the Congress party as well. The Congress is engaging in strangulation politics, which will have severe consequences for them.”

JD-U leader Rajeev Ranjan Prasad also criticized Raj's comments, saying, “The rhetoric of Congress leaders is deteriorating due to panic and frustration. Such statements are intolerable in a democratic society. This is extremely disrespectful.
