Bengaluru, Feb 22 (NationPress) Delhi Capitals won the toss and decided to bowl first against the UP Warriorz in the eighth match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday.
This toss was critical for the Capitals, as the team that has opted to bowl first at this venue has emerged victorious in all seven previous matches.
Saturday’s game marks the second encounter between these teams in the 2025 season, following DC's convincing seven-wicket win over the Warriorz in Vadodara on Wednesday.
In that match, Delhi captain Meg Lanning stood out as the top scorer with a stellar 61 runs, leading her team’s successful chase of 167. Annabel Sutherland earned the Player of the Match title for her unbeaten 41 runs and impressive bowling figures of 2-24.
The Capitals retained the same team that triumphed over the Warriorz last time, while the UP franchise made one change, bringing in Saima Takor for Rajeshwari Gayakwad in hopes of reversing their fortunes.
“We’re going to bowl first. Same team. We believe we improved in the last game and aim to replicate that tonight. The pitch should suit our style of play. It’s great to be back on a winning streak. We need to perform well again tonight,” Meg commented at the toss.
The UP Warriorz are eager to secure their first victory of the season after suffering losses against DC and the Gujarat Giants in their first two matches, leaving them at the bottom of the WPL standings.
In contrast, DC has only lost once in their three matches this season, with the eight-wicket defeat to RCB being their only setback.
