Sepang, Feb 5 (NationPress) Defending champion Jorge Martin, representing Aprilia Racing, is returning to Spain for surgical procedures on his hand and foot following two accidents on Wednesday, the second of which involved a significant high side at the Sepang International Circuit.
In a surprising beginning to his title defense, he has been officially excluded from the Sepang Test. He was ejected from his Aprilia during the Malaysia Test and subsequently taken to a hospital for further assessments.
Medical evaluations have revealed a fracture in his right hand and additional fractures in his left foot, preventing him from participating in further testing in Malaysia.
He has also had a CT scan and MRI, both of which ruled out any head injuries. He will now make his way back to Spain for surgery on his hand and foot, which is set for later this week.
"Jorge Martin has been diagnosed with a right hand fracture and fractures in his left foot. He has undergone a CT scan and MRI, both of which were negative for any head injuries.
“He will remain hospitalized overnight, and tomorrow he will travel back to Europe to undergo surgery on both his right hand and left foot.
“Jorge Martin sustained a closed fracture of the 5th metacarpal head in his right hand and closed fractures of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th metatarsals in his left foot,” stated Aprilia Racing.
Jorge Martin made history in the 2024 MotoGP World Championship by becoming the first independent rider to win the title in the modern era. After 20 Sprints and 19 Grand Prix events, everything culminated in the final race of the season at the Motul Solidarity Grand Prix of Barcelona, where the Spaniard clinched the championship despite finishing third in the last race.
